Tomorrow I start my new contract position. Should be an exciting change of pace even though it’s still within the same organization. Anyway, it being my last day I was able to get out of the office early and it’s in the mid-60s outside. What else was I going to do but hit the links!

I went to the closest course to home, which is Pinecrest Golf Club. It’s a little 9 hole muni course run by Fairfax County. I had heard good things about it’s value and layout so I wanted to give it a shot. The good: decent layout, nice mature trees, opportunities to use the driver, cheap green fees. The bad: they had just aerated the greens this morning, poor shape of the fairways and tee boxes. I realize that they haven’t fully been able to work on course conditions and it IS a muni anyway, but I was a bit disappointed in that.

Since the beginning of the year I had only gotten to TopGolf twice and hit in our full-swing simulator upstairs once as well. This meant I wasn’t too worried about results today and just wanted to enjoy myself. Overall I played better than expected, especially with my putting and the times I used my 3 wood off the tee. I was able to drive the green on a 240 yard par 4 and it felt good! Anyway, check the results on my online scorecard on this website. It updates every time I input a round into my scorecard software on our Mac.

Even though DC is not really that far south and gets snow at least a few times a year, it always creates havoc. Mostly because there aren’t enough snowplows and so all of the rural areas where the schools and commuters are located never get plowed in a timely manner.

The federal government had a two hour delay / liberal leave policy today so I slept in an extra hour and arrived at my office at 0830 instead of 0730. As a contractor, I still have to get my 8 hours in to get paid for them and I didn’t want to use any vacation time by taking the day off. I also ‘wasted’ $1.80 by riding the metro one stop from where I get dropped off by our apartment shuttle to where I can walk to my office underground. Let’s face it, dress pants/shoes and snow do not mix. I actually wore my waterproof Merril mocs and carried my shoes in my messenger bag. It made me feel like those older ladies you sometimes see getting their exercise in during lunchtime by walking around with their cheap white sneakers on their stockinged feet while wearing skirts. Looks horrible.

The upside to all of this was that Quiznos was mostly empty when I went downstairs for lunch today to use my free sub coupon. Normally that place is absolutely packed from 11 to 1 every day. We’re supposed to have high winds and flurries over the next one to two days but by Friday it’s supposed to be in the low 60′s. Incredible.
