Snow Day

Posted in Jason --> Comments Off

So half of the DC Metro area has shut down today as we were involved in the southermost end of a Nor-easter. Even though DC is not really that far south and gets snow at least a few times a year, it always creates havoc. Mostly because there aren’t enough snowplows and so all of the rural areas where the schools and commuters are located never get plowed in a timely manner.

The federal government had a two hour delay / liberal leave policy today so I slept in an extra hour and arrived at my office at 0830 instead of 0730. As a contractor, I still have to get my 8 hours in to get paid for them and I didn’t want to use any vacation time by taking the day off. I also ‘wasted’ $1.80 by riding the metro one stop from where I get dropped off by our apartment shuttle to where I can walk to my office underground. Let’s face it, dress pants/shoes and snow do not mix. I actually wore my waterproof Merril mocs and carried my shoes in my messenger bag. It made me feel like those older ladies you sometimes see getting their exercise in during lunchtime by walking around with their cheap white sneakers on their stockinged feet while wearing skirts. Looks horrible.

The upside to all of this was that Quiznos was mostly empty when I went downstairs for lunch today to use my free sub coupon. Normally that place is absolutely packed from 11 to 1 every day. We’re supposed to have high winds and flurries over the next one to two days but by Friday it’s supposed to be in the low 60′s. Incredible.

Don Cherry on Ovechkin’s Celebrations

Comments Off

Don Cherry just needs to retire. Talking like he knows what’s best for ‘young Canadian kids’. His opinion is usually on the opposite of the normal NHL fan and he’s out of touch with today’s athletes. I kind of feel sorry for him that he can’t just enjoy the fun of the game anymore. His comments are below:
