Site Changes

Well you might notice a few changes around here. I used to have 3 separate WordPress blogs on my domain. One was used primarily for personal and tech stuff, one was primarily used by my fiance to post her cooking exploits, and one was purely poker related.

Well neither of us really post all that much and each time WordPress would release a new version it was pretty much a pain in the ass to upgrade all 3 installs. So I decided to just go ahead and combine them into one blog. They all used the same theme anyway with just color variations. Some of my family doesn’t really understand my interest in poker but since I never really was trying to monetize that blog anyway, they can deal with hearing about it. For those of you who know me from the poker world, hopefully you won’t mind hearing more about my fairly boring life. If you had been subscribing to a feed, you’ll need to delete it and start again with the feedburner link to the bottom right.

Oh and Astin, I don’t know if you had ever stopped by my blog before but I think you and Stephanie could swap a few good recipes!

Alternative Blogging Tool

I’m posting this using the MarsEdit blogging tool. I actually have a license to the previous version of this software from a bundle but ended up using Ecto instead. A new version of MarsEdit has been released from a new developer that has taken the project over. It seems to add a few features such as Flickr integration that make it seem viable for me so I decided to give it another try.

Compared to Ecto 2, MarsEdit appears to be a much cleaner layout. Ecto 3 is closer but you have to appreciate the simple beauty of MarsEdit. For beginning bloggers there might be a little bit more of a learning curve with MarsEdit though as it does not appear to provide a rich text editing option. So you are creating your posts in HTML. It has a simple drop down with basic things like links and paragraphs to help you along though.

It’s too early to say for sure if I’m going to go ahead and pay the $9.99 upgrade price and start using MarsEdit exclusively but I’m going to give it a shot for the 30 day trial and see how it goes.

MMORPGs

Well I’m currently downloading the Mac client for Eve Online, which was released today, so that I can take it for a 14 day trial spin. I just signed up for a cheap introductory month for Pirates of the Caribbean Online. I still have my World of Warcraft account. They are all MMORPGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) that have a Mac client available. And that’s why I’m trying them.

I don’t want to have to boot into windows anymore, although I can if I need to. I want to play games in the genre that I enjoy and play them with a native client. I’ve played Lineage II, Planetside, Dark Age of Camelot, and City of Heroes. I am looking forward towards the new Warhammer game. However, I have not seen a single thing indicating that there is a Mac client in development. Very disappointing and I may even take the drastic step of just sticking with one of the games that I can play natively. I guess we shall see.
