Biking Around DC

A few weeks ago we took our longest bike ride around the area to date. We started out heading from our place to hop on the Mt. Vernon Trail over by the airport. We rode the trail all the way to it’s northern terminus at Roosevelt Island near Georgetown. We then proceeded across the river using the Key Bridge and caught the C&O trail through the Georgetown waterfront. Following along the park trail near the Potomac river we passed by the Watergate and some of the monuments. These pictures were taken near that area.

Near the Lincoln Memorial we hopped back to the Virginia side of the river using the Memorial Bridge and took the Mt. Vernon trail back home. There are a couple of neat spots along this trip. There is a park that the trail runs through at the north end of the airport that a lot of people like to watch planes take off from. They actually pass just a few hundred feet directly overhead so it’s quite the view. There is also a long stretch of raised wooden trail through a waterfowl sanctuary that has a ton of overhead tree cover.

As we take more of these bike treks I plan on snapping more pictures to share.

Slow Cooking

IMG_0259.JPGStephanie bought me a Crock Pot as a ‘just because’ gift the other day. I’ve been saying that I wanted to get one for awhile now, showing her different models that caught my eye every time we ventured into a cooking store. She has hesitated, thinking that letting food ‘fester’ for hours is disgusting. Finally she wore down and became resigned to her fate of having to eat food slow cooked.

IMG_0260.JPGI think that it’s a great technique when you want a nice filling dish without a lot of worry. There are a lot of things that you can prepare when you get up in the morning, throw in the Crock Pot, and let it cook all day to be waiting for you when you get home from work. They don’t have to be hard to prepare at all either. For our first dish, I just threw a couple of chicken quarters in and covered them in barbecue sauce. After a few hours the meat will just fall off the bone. It doesn’t get any easier than that!

Geeking Out

IMG_0257.JPGThis is a shot of me playing World of Warcraft the other night. Stephanie was making fun of me because she walked into the room asking “Who are you talking to?” I replied that I was chatting with my guildmates from Allied Tribal Forces. Yes, I like to play video games with a bunch of other semi-middle-aged social misfits and actually talk to them at the same time!
IMG_0258.JPGI don’t really know what’s so funny or weird about this. I’ve been doing it my entire life and don’t plan on stopping. Some people quilt or paint to relax. I kill demons for fun. So what? :)
