Limit Cash Games

It’s an amazing day in a lot of ways. The sun is out and warm. I got out of work early. It’s a long holiday weekend. I’m playing Limit Hold’em. Wait, what was that last part? Ah yes. I realize that many of you are thinking ,’ brdweb, no-limit is where all the fish and action are!’

Well sure, there might be more tables and action out there in NL land. However I’ve come to realize that although I don’t feel that I’m a bad NL player, I don’t like the swings very much. That’s probably why I enjoy MTTs so much. They let me use my NL skills but I have both a built-in stop loss amount and the opportunity for a big payday. When it comes to cash play though I just like to take advantage of others’ mistakes slowly. Why take a risk that they’ll hit their 3 outer on one hand when I’m pretty much guaranteed to get their chips slowly if we play long enough?

I deposited some cash on Stars so that I could take advantage of their 1 billionth hand reload bonus. That’s another area where limit has the advantage, at least online. You can clear a bonus much faster playing limit. So I’m two-tabling 1-2 6-max tables and as I sat there I realized that stars actually still has plenty of fish playing limit poker! I had played a bit recently on FTP and didn’t notice it to quite that extent although I was still ahead there.

I would have to assume that this holds true for live play as well. I know that a lot of folks think that online fish are bigger donkeys that live but I just always seem to see even worse play in a casino. I feel that it’s because that when somebody takes the time to actually drive to a casino they really want to get in the action. Online, you can play at any time you want so you don’t have that itch to play.

Pauly recently wrote about admitting that he’s just a limit grinder and is not ashamed to admit it. Well put me into that category too.

This is only a test

Just testing out a new plugin for my Mint install to track people who read this through a feed reader. If you have a WordPress install, I highly recommend Mint if you want a more powerful and customizable tracking mechanism.**Note** It works, but you’ll have to resubscribe to the RSS feed it appears. Bah!

Vegas Plans

So my flight and hotel are booked, I’m pre-registered for the WSOP, and it’s less than 4 weeks until I set foot in Las Vegas for the first time EVER! I’ve played live in a casino before of course, in both small card rooms in the Seattle area and the larger Atlantic City venues. This will also be my first WPBT event. I was able to attend the Bash at the Boat that AlCantHang puts on every year and meet some of the bloggers in attendance. Hopefully more of you will be showing up in June.

I’m looking for some feedback as to the daily tournaments that are run Monday through Friday in Vegas. My plan is to possibly not play as much poker while in town as I originally planned and do some additional lounging by the pool and drinking. Since the WSOP will be going on I figure that the other daily tournaments might provide good value by having smaller and softer fields. Can anybody recommend specific tournaments under a $300 buyin that happen on Wednesday night, Thursdays, or Friday during the day?

Oh and just an FYI, I’ll be arriving 5pm on the 6th and flying out the morning of the 11th. My place of residence while in town will be Hooters…
